Systematic Goal Achievement

Good afternoon Dreamers

Hello and welcome to the second installment of the Dream Workers newsletter. Thank you for spending some of your time with us!

Happy New Year Dreamers

Before we get into the meat of this weeks' newsletter, I want to express to you that I hope the new year has started off on the right foot for you; and if for some reason you aren't where you want to be, that is okay. Genuine lifestyle change does not happen overnight or within the span of a week.

With that being said, it is important to realize that New Year's Resolutions are overrated. The general populous - SOCIETY, puts too much focus on setting arbitrary goals rather than focusing on the SYSTEMS they need to implement in their daily lives that will lead them on a path to achieving their desired outcomes. Genuine lifestyle change is NOT about sitting down and writing 5 achievements you wish to complete while making no actual changes to your lifestyle and just hoping for the best.

Lifestyle changes take time to adapt to and all those January Resolutions that people reference in conversation are just white noise, smoke in the mirror, if they have no real SYSTEM in place to achieve these goals. With real SYSTEMS in place, you will only start seeing the results of your efforts several months AFTER the New Year has begun. Stay patient and know that your effort and consistency matter much more than simply setting goals.

Do you have a grasp on what we will be focusing on during this edition of Dreamworkers yet? That's right, SYSTEMS to achieve genuine lifestyle change.

"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."

Charles Darwin

So then, what are systems?

Systems are:

  • A plan, a path, or route to follow to reach a desired outcome.

  • A safety net of consistency to fall back on when you yourself are dealing with the inconsistencies that come with life.

  • A means to achieving everything you believe you are capable of.

Now that we've covered what systems are, we can focus on the goal setting aspect of creating change in our lives. After all - it is not that goals aren't important, goals simply aren't the main focus. The systems you build require the majority of your attention in order to achieve the results you are looking for.

Goals or Non-Negotiables "NN", as I prefer to call them, are the baseline to a successful operation. NN's can be implemented on a daily, weekly, and monthly time frame in order to keep yourself in alignment with your desired outcomes.

For example, my personal NN's on a daily basis are:

  • Less than (>) 2,500 calories consumed daily (180 grams of protein intake).

  • 7+ hours of sleep daily.

  • Read 5+ pages of my current book.

  • Write down notes every session from the podcast I'm currently listening to.

  • Stay present in the now. Practice mindfulness with deep breathing exercises.

On a weekly basis, this NN checklist would look something like this:

  • Less than (>) 17,500 calories consumed weekly (1,260 grams of protein intake).

  • 49+ hours of sleep.

  • 1-2 chapters read by weeks end.

  • 5-10 keynotes saved for deeper research.

  • Remain grounded and appreciate the life I've been gifted with.

Using this same concept, I can then structure my months and subsequent year to stay in alignment with my intended outcomes. Such as, becoming remarkably physically fit & elevating my intestinal gut health to optimal levels of functionality. Getting as much quality rest as possible, continuing to gain knowledge and steadily increase my level of intelligence, and living a life that I am proud to claim is my own.

With these 5 Non-Negotiables as the baseline, then I can turn my attention to the systems I practice in order to maintain steadfast progress. Let's use my non-negotiable, 7+ hours of sleep a night and take a deeper look at the daily system I have created in order to achieve this goal.

Goal:

  • 7+ hours of sleep per night

System:

  • Electronics turned off by 7:45PM (T.V., Phone, Laptop)

  • Low Lights or candles lit by sunset (roughly 6pm)

  • Dinner finished and digesting by 7:30PM

  • In bed, reading by 8:30PM

In order to actively participate in creating a better life by achieving the goals you set for yourself you must have strong systems in place. Without a strong system, goals are ideas that fade away with time. I'd love to hear what your personal goals are, not just for the new year but for your life in general. There is no better time to start taking control of the direction your life is headed in than right now.

I leave you today with a perspective-enhancing monologue from decorated retired Navy SEAL officer Jocko Willink covering Extreme Ownership of the self. The simple question is, do you have what it takes to lead?

Feel free to respond to this newsletter with some or your current main focus that way we can have a discussion regarding your process of creating a better life. I'll undoubtedly get back to you!

May we all continue to find the best versions of ourselves, within ourselves.

Take care, and until next time - Keep Dreaming.
